The wonderful CAFOD group at St. Teresa’s parish in Princes Risborough decided to organise a sponsored walk in aid of CAFOD’s Cyclone Idai Appeal as they were really moved when they heard about the trail of destruction it left and of the estimated 750 people who lost their lives.
Sue Jepson, the current chair of the group, shares her experience :
“We were really keen to support those affected by cyclone Idai and thought our annual sponsored walk would be a good time to raise funds for the appeal. So on Sunday 12 May a group of walkers set off for a 5mile walk. Having met other volunteers at our Lent Supporters’ day, we invited them and were delighted to have five walkers from St. Augustine’s, High Wycombe join us.
In beautiful sunshine, 17 walkers set off from St. Teresa’s church, climbing up the steep slopes of the Chiltern Hills to Whiteleaf, enjoying magnificent views over the vale.
The walk continued through woodland paths down towards The Plough Inn at Cadsden, returning to Princes Risborough via the beautiful parish church of St. Dunstan’s. The paths were dry and the woods looked beautiful. The beech trees were in bloom with a lovely light green leaves.
On arrival back at St Teresa’s, we celebrated our efforts by enjoying the selection of home-made cakes and tea that awaited us.
I informed all about CAFOD’s latest Care for our Comon Home campaign and we all signed the petition asking the PM to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to ‘net zero’ by 2045 in the UK.
The teenager who joined us was really keen to gain support for the appeal and raised £50! He enjoyed the walk too which was lovely. We were thrilled with this and presented him with a certificate of congratulations.
We hope to raise over £800 for the cyclone Idai appeal. ”
In fact, the parish raised £1830!!! Whow! Well done and big thanks to the CAFOD group at St Teresa’s for organising the event. Thanks also to those who joined in the walk and supported it. Great that members of St Augustine’s parish in High Wycombe were able to join in. Congrats to our teenager too! You are all really such an inspiration!
