We were delighted to be able to offer a day of reflection to all our supporters and volunteers on the vision of Pope Francis for a renewed Church that is more connected to the plight of the poor, and lives out a vocation of helping those in greatest need.
The day was led by Kieran O’Brien (Coordinator – South Wales) and we explored and learnt more about the gems of wisdom found in our Catholic faith – Catholic Social teaching, and unpacked some of the challenging teachings of Pope Francis on topics ranging from caring for our common home, to refugees and care for our families. We looked at a whole host of values and were surprised to note that a survey showed that irrespective of background or belief, people tended to have similar ideas of what comprise “good values” and “less good values” .
The day gave us a chance to explore how can we connect our lives to our deepest held values, and recognise new ways on how we can put Pope Francis’ vision into action in our own parishes and communities.
“How I would love a Church that is poor, and for the poor.” – Pope Francis
We took time to contemplate on the things that really matter to us, and helped to reconnect our lives to the values of the Gospel.
We had a lovely shared lunch were people could meet each other and share what they experienced so far. 8 year old Anthony brought chocolate and apricots to share and was keen for people to partake in it. Reminded me of the 5 loaves and two fish miracle in the gospel!
The second half of the day was equally engaging and we all left on a high. Throughout the day we touched on Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ and his apostolic exhortation – Evangelii Gaudiaum which are so awesome and really worth a read.
Anthony who participated fully in the day said, “ I enjoyed the day very much. Mum and I plan to come to church earlier from now on so that we can try out the 10min silence and be still.”
It was truly an amazing day and we are very grateful to Kieran for coming and running such an informative and transformative day.
For those who missed it, we encourage you to attend the next one :
