A special Ash Wednesday assembly at St Thomas More School Bedford

Ash Wednesday was marked in a special way at St Thomas More Catholic Teaching School in Bedford. The  Sixth Form Faith Ambassadors together with Mrs Burgess, the Chaplaincy Coordinator  led the school’s weekly assembly using CAFOD’s Ash Wednesday liturgy. The service, which is based on CAFOD’s work in Zambia, uses a range of resources, including the fish template that symbolises the small opportunities that can make a big difference to people’s lives.

The students brought to the Assembly a fish cut-out  prepared in advance during prayer time at the school, where they had written a personal prayer or Lenten promise. As they approached to receive the blessed Ash, they presented their fish. Later, these were displayed around the school in a large CAFOD poster.

CAFOD not only inspired the Ash Wednesday assembly, but on the 24 March the school is holding a fundraising event to support the work of CAFOD, among other charities.

Well done to St Thomas More for your great support!
