Holy Redeemer (Slough) CAFOD Group still going after 12 years

The CAFOD group at Holy Redeemer started over 12 years ago. Over the last few years it comprised Eileen, Margaret, Rosaline and Sr Nora (who has now retired). They have done fantastic fundraising over the years and promoted Fast Days in the parish.

“We started off with a sponsored walk which was very good. But the youth group who wanted to do an event took that idea and so we had to come up with another idea and we decided on a ‘bacon & cabbage’ night” recounts Eileen.  “We ended up doing this for 3 years as it was so successful!  We then moved on to other events”.  The group has done Elvis and Abba nights which proved to be so successful in building community and raising amazing amounts for CAFOD’s work.

At the Harvest supporter day in 2016, they chatted with other volunteers and found out that one of them was also a governor to the school next to the parish. Through this contact, they managed to liaise with the school so that their latest event, a sponsored walk, included the school as well.  They raised a fantastic £3000!

They are keen to have others join the group and may be getting a few more soon.. so watch this space!

What an inspiration. Thank you so much for all you do to support CAFOD’s work!

  1. Always been an amazing parish group, with great ideas. Sorry to hear the Bacon and Cabbage has stopped. Could be due a revival sometime soon?
