Edz turn Gold into Silver

The Edz group in Wellingborough set a target to raise £2010 in the year 2010 for their CAFOD Connect2 Rwanda project.

We are a group of young people from the parish of Our Lady and St Edmund  and we have tried to meet the challenge in a variety of ways.

To start with we agreed to raise some of the funds directly ourselves by increasing our weekly entrance fees. Next came a huge Easter Egg Raffle following which we joined with the Infant School and Parish for a Summer Fun  Day.

Our next project will be the St. Nicholas Day coins where we  hope to draw parallels with St. Nicholas’ care for others and what we can achieve with just a little effort.

St. Nicholas’ Day is on Monday 6th December so on Sunday, 5th December we will give all the young people in the parish a bag of gold chocolate coins with an invitation that they turn them into silver, money which will, in the tradition of St Nicholas, help children in Rwanda.

“I have been going to Edz for four years now and never could have realised what a big part of my life Edz and the church was to become”, says Bethan Mullen, a Young Team Leader at Edz Youth Group.

the Edz group will be asking young parishioners to turn these chocolate gold coins into real silver ones.

“I can honestly say that it is the highlight of my week- to come and join with other young members of my faith, to have a place where we can interact and be together means so much. Being a leader makes it that much more special, and gives me a sense of responsibility that I am extremely grateful for.

“I’m really proud of the things we do and am looking forward to developing ideas to support our parish Rwanda project.  The St Nicholas coins is just the latest step in our programme.”
