At the invitation of their CAFOD Group, parishioners from St Martin’s, Brackley and St Bernadine’s, Buckingham, have been raising funds to provide a virtual village with all they need to ensure they have clean water, food, shelter, education and a livelihood.
On Sunday, 25 January, Frank Sudlow visited the parish to receive their first cheque – to provide a community water supply. The parishes are already on their way to their next target raising funds through wine tasting and other social events, community Christmas greetings, and straight forward donations.
In speaking to the parishioners after mass Frank noted the difference their support was already making to communities across the world. Providing a community water supply not only ensures that babies and young children live longer and healthier lives, it also releases children, especially girls, to be able to go to school while providing irrigation for vegetable and fruit crops which improve the diet of many people as well as bringing communities together for mutual support.
